“I used to be indecisive but now I’m not sure.” |
Picking the right fabric can be more difficult then you may think. In comparison to an artist, choosing the right fabric is like choosing the best canvas for an oil painting. When it comes to fabrics, there are many different types, and here at K and B these are some of our top sellers:
- 100% Cotton
- 100% Polyester
- 50/50 Cotton/poly blend
- Tri-blend
- Ring spun cotton
- Rayon
100% cotton: This fabric is made from the cotton plant. It is one of the most desired fabrics because of its comfortable, soft feel on the skin. This fabric is great for every day use because it keeps you cool and has great strength. Cotton is machine washable and dry cleanable, However we don’t recommend dry cleaning screen printed shirts because the ink doesn’t hold up well and your design will get ruined. One of the main reasons cotton shirts are the most popular is because of its good color retention and ease to print on. Cotton shirts are easy to handle and works perfect for screen printing. Recommended 100% cotton shirt.
100% polyester: This fabric is a manufactured material that is strong, quick drying, and wrinkle resistant. Polyester has gained its popularity in the fitness world due to its sporty look and since its mildew resistant and extremely strong. It’s ideal for playing outdoors. Polyester is soft to the touch, but some say it can have a slightly synthetic feel. It holds its shape very well and holds up well after washing. Modern polyester is a very useful and comfortable fabric. Polyester is a little more difficult to screen print on due to dye migration. Dye migration is an unwanted chemical reaction between plastisol ink and the dye used in most polyester shirts and blends. However, an experienced screen printer can still get the job done. If you would like to learn more about dye migration, we will upload a more detailed blog shortly. Recommended polyester shirt.
50/50 cotton polyester blend: This fabric is a blend of the best attributes of polyester mixed with the top traits of cotton. This material provides the light and cool feel you expect from cotton with the wrinkle resistance and strength you expect from polyester. The result is a shirt that feels softer than polyester, yet holds it shape better than cotton. This shirt is another alternative for everyday use and comfort. Recommended 50/50 shirt.
Tri-Blend: This fabric is a blend of three fabrics – usually cotton, polyester, and rayon. Tri Blend shirts usually have a medium amount of softness. This shirt doesn’t keep heat trapped between the fabric and your skin, making tri-blend t-shirts ideal for an active day at the gym or an inactive day lounging around the house. Recommended Tri-Blend shirt.
Ring spun cotton: This term refers to how the cotton yarn is made. Ring spun cotton is made using a twisting technique. The twisting results in a stronger and softer fabric. Ring spun cotton normally lasts longer because its more durable than normal cotton shirts. However, this also means ring spun cotton shirts are more expensive. Recommended ring spun cotton shirt.
